Office of the Chair

Hello:

My name is Donald Parker. I am the Chairman of Vet to Vet. It is indeed a privilege to be a part of such a dedicated organization as Southeastern Vet to Vet Peer Support, Incorporated.

Since our inception in 2006, we have provided veterans with information and guidance to help improve their lives after military trauma has caused a mental or physical issue that restricts their smooth reconnection back into civilian society. Our purpose is to provide peer support to veterans in their recovery. This includes those who suffered the anguish of combat, substance and physical abuse, and also the results of mental trauma. We provide a safe, respectful, and confidential environment where our veterans can share and discuss their traumas. They can also express their thoughts without fear of reprisal or stereotyping. Veterans also learn valuable coping skills to manage their illness while readjusting to civilian life. They gain confidence in handling family and business relationships effectively. As a result, they learn how to maintain their physical and emotional health. Vet to Vet has instituted suicide prevention as part of the Vet to Vet program as well.

After our incorporation as a 501(c)(3) organization, Southeastern Vet to Vet Peer Support, Inc. has worked in conjunction with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) throughout Alabama and part of Georgia. Our veterans are both consumers and providers of services. This model is driven through training veterans to help themselves as well as others. Since its inception, vet to vet have served a cumulative total of over 30 thousand veterans in 8 different sites throughout Alabama and Georgia. Some become facilitators, volunteering to train and mentor others. There are 5 active sites; Lanett, Montgomery, Tuskegee, Tuscaloosa, (temporarily closed) Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. We are able to remain viable and relevant because of the contributions of these volunteers.

Finally, to continue our growth and assist more veterans, we need your help! Please visit our donation page and give generously. Your donations may be tax deductible. Please contact your tax advisor/preparer. Thank you for taking the time to find out about our program. Please browse our website for additional information about us, the veterans, spouses, dependents, and caregivers. My sincere hope is that you will become a permanent supporter of Southeastern Vet to Vet Peer Support Inc. through your generous donations so we can continue providing these critically needed services to our Veterans.

With my Greatest Admiration,

Donald Parker
